How do you end your working week? Some of us like to let loose and party. Some of us like to dine out. Some of us like to chill out with some cocktails at the bar. Why not all 3? Enter Basement33.
Friday night, we decided to check out this hip new Sydney gem located right in the heart of the Sydney CBD! Walk down Goulburn St, and you will be sure to spot a set of stairs going down to a basement level with a brightly illuminated sign atop!
Upon entering, we were greeted by staff almost immediately seating us in lush private booths! The décor here is great, dark yet nifty. Almost like a NYC bar, and that is exactly what they are going for! Walls covered with classic movie posters, dim mood lighting, and great music as revellers dine and drink the night away!
First up, let us shake the Friday night daily grind with some drinks. We opted for a Strawberry Daquiri and a Passionfruit, Lime & Kiwifruit Mocktail. Now, I’m not much of a fan of a Daquiri, but after this Daquiri, I may have now been converted. This went down smooth with a fresh strawberry flavour and a nice hint of lime. Tasted absolutely perfectly mixed. The mocktail was refreshing with a fresh kick of Vitamins. Delicious and healthy at the same time!
They have a great menu here. Loads of awesome things to sample in great sized proportions. Perfect for snacks with your drink. Or cocktails with your meal!
These cheesy fries were just that. Thick cut, chunky fries topped with oodles of cheeses, and dashes of hollandaise sauce to tie it all in. An absolute delight.
Antipasto platters are always great. It’s a great way to all dig in and share some gourmet bites before a big meal and this platter was just that. Fresh ham, epic balls of bocconcini, crunchy fresh bread and Kalamata olives. It’s always a delight dipping the bread into the balsamic olive oil with a hint of rock salt. Try it. I guarantee a foodgasm.
Next up, cheesy meatballs. This was pretty unique. Having eaten in hundreds of places, I am yet to come across this on the menu and I was pleasantly surprised. Seasoned chunky meatballs covered with cheese that are soft to bite into! Placed on a bowl with thick Bolognese sauce. It is actually quite hard to explain the flavour in this, it’s like a spaghetti Bolognese with more meat and no spaghetti. But definitely EPIC!
We decided to try a couple more cocktails and received the Signature Sake Cocktail and the Passionfruit Daquiri. Both really did hold their own. The Sake cocktail was extremely unique. Being an avid lover of Japanese food, I love Sake and this Sake cocktail was a brilliant twist on the traditional Sake!
If you love fried chicken, you HAVE to try the Basement Bird here! It is a bucket of tempura style Fried Chicken topped with Spring Onion and delicious Spicy BBQ sauce! The chicken was perfectly cooked and came apart from the shell. Dipped into this special sauce, it is actually one of the best fried chicken I have ever had!
If you read up on Basement33, you will quickly see that they are known for their pizzas and we had to try one! Kept it basic with the Margherita but it quickly became the best NY Style pizza I have had outside of the United States! The dough was soft, the crust was thick and cooked to perfection and the pizza slices were large and able to be rolled up in your hand JUST LIKE A New York City pizza! Taste-wise, it was definitely one of the best pizza’s I have had and I highly recommend you try some of the pizzas here. If we hadn’t eaten all that we had, we would have definitely tried some more of their gourmet special pizzas!
Oh did we mention they do Nutella Pizza’s as well as other desserts! We didn’t have room but yeah, would love to try them next time!
The vibe here at Basement33 was great the whole time we were here! Fantastic music playing, a great crowd, plenty of seating and some awesome food! Having an awesome hideaway place like this in Sydney is great, I mean where else can you go that has great food, makes a perfect cocktail, has awesome pizza’s to go with the cocktails along with a beautiful crowd and awesome vibes to chill to?
