With more than 175 stores in Australia, Dan Murphy’s has grown into Australia’s leading liquor retail outlet since opening its first store in 1952. The Dan Murphy’s philosophy is ‘to provide customers with the largest range of wines, beers and spirits from both Australia and the rest of the world, at prices guaranteed to be lower than any other liquor retailer’.
In every Dan Murphy’s store there is a Product Expert who will be able to help you find the product you are looking for. Whether it is a particular wine for a 50th birthday or bottle of Vodka for a Christmas present. I found that Dan Murphy’s have a large range of liquor so you’ll be sure to walk out with something.
Regular Tastings are available weekly, contact your local Dan Murphy’s store for dates, times and availabilities. *Tastings not available in Burwood or Manly Vale, NSW
You have the opportunity to taste a range of selected wines, liqueurs, ciders and beers every week in Dan Murphy’s store*. If you enjoyed what you have tasted in-store you can rate and review the product on their website.
When I went to the Dan Murphy’s Double Bay Store in Sydney, there was an in-store cider tasting. The Dan Murphy’s Product Expert, Ghee, was the expert taking the tastings, whose cider knowledge was spectacular.
Cider is basically a fermented alcoholic drink made from apples or pear which is called perry, and it ranges in alcohol levels, 1.2% to 12%.
Depending on your taste preference, you can drink dry cider or sweet cider with sugar, yeast and filtration levels varying.
As you scroll down, you can see the various ciders I tasted, made either commercially by the big alcohol companies or in by small town breweries in countries such as Australia, Sweden and Japan. Strongbow is Dan Murphy’s highest selling cider.
As a lover of cider myself, apple cider goes particularly well with roast pork belly or a gamey meat such as pheasant. Or you can replace the wine with perry cider at cheese and vino nights. Try it yourself and let us know what you think.
I also tried their new smartphone app in store, which allowed me to get product information and expert reviews by taking an image of the bottle label or barcode. This is great, especially when you are in a rush and want information about a product at the click of your hands.
