Not shy of opening fantastic eateries, restaurateur Sam Christie has officially opened the doors to his newest culinary adventure, Subcontinental.
With his Longrain restaurants joining the ranks of Australia’s top eating destinations for 15 years, and together with chef/restaurateur Jonathan Barthelmess opening The Apollo and Cho Cho San in Potts Point, Christie has very much succeeded in restaurant game.
Subcontinental, with Head Chef Victor Chung, will be plating a modern take on Indian inspired cuisine, whilst also incorporating dishes from the rich melting pots from the rest of the Subcontinent.
But tonight was different. Tonight, we were invited to celebrate the launch of Subcontinental, with renowned Chef Peter Kuruvita hosting an intimate dinner.
The nighted started with a few glasses of Saffron Infused Tanqueray and Fevertree Indian Tonic with a hint of mango. Thank God I wasn’t driving.
We began with the Amuse Bouche of crunchy Japanese crackers topped with gorgeous and flavoursome Ocean Trout, Coconut and Lime. Also had Prawns in Curry Paste and coated in Toasted Coconut. Two of each definitely wasn’t enough.
Next was a tasting plate with 3 well prepared and delicious entrées consisting of Fish Cutlets with Raita, Betel Leaf BlackPepper Prawns with Coconut Sambal and a Devilled Tuna, Crisp Pork Belly and Fire Roasted Chillies.
For the mains, my mate chose the Prawn Kotu, Crisp Gothamba, Fresh Vegetables and Chilli Oil and I chose the Blackened Fish Curry with String Hoppers.
The fish flaked off perfectly and the tasted incredible and full of flavour thanks to the curry it infused with.
Dessert time, woo! Buffalo curd with palm treacle and freeze dried pineapple, raspberries and baby basil. It might have been small, it was smooth, refreshing and rather delicious.
Want really good modern Indian food, great cocktails and an intimate yet fun setting? Subcontinental is the place to check out.
