Like a man out on bail, I was on the hunt for a decent and filling feed. Umbrella in one hand and camera in the other, I was off through the rain and puddle filled streets of Surry Hills where I landed in front of Mohr Fish / pretty sure its a silent ‘H’. On the corner of Steel and Devonshire St, this humble and tiny corner fish and chip shop somewhat caught my attention.
Sea green and powder blues, cream and the odd blue ‘starsign’ tiles, baby blue high tables and wooden stools and a stainless steel bar that you can eat at, seating maximum 30 people, it gives off an ‘old milk bar / fish shop’ vibe which is ever so inviting.
A welcoming smile by the cashier girl, I instantly sat down to eat in and scanned the uncomplicated menu. What the heck do I order? Prawns, Oysters, Mussels, Grilled Swordfish and Chips? Can I get entree Prawn and Fish Dumplings (6) and a Salmon Burger with fries, Thanks. EPIC FEED, COME AT ME!
Offering you a complimentary bread and butter basket to start off with is awesome. Give the entree a few minutes as fresh and tasty doesn’t arrive instantly. Entree lands in front of me and you can smell the aroma of the Prawn and Fish Dumplings swimming in a sea of soy sauce, coriander, chilli and Bok Choy. Perfect it is, oh wow! Teases your tongue that you wish you ordered it as a main which has 10.
And the main arrives. Deboned Salmon fillet with lettuce, carrots and homemade tartare sauce in a soft bun with a side of fries and a jar of that incredible homemade tartare sauce.
If you love seafood then Mohr Fish is the place for you to bring friends and family, this is definitely my new favourite.
