Finding a decent steak is hard when you’re trying to find your feet in a new city. So naturally, you ask some friends, grab their opinions on a few places and make your decision on where to go.
Small, intimate and rather welcoming, we hit up the modern French restaurant in Fitzroy, Melbourne named Madame Sousou.
Who is Madame Sousou? I will never know. What I do know is the steaks here are fantastic.
Embodied with wine bottles and Betty Boo paintings, dim intimate lighting and the sound of a busy kitchen, Madame Sousou doesn’t hold back with making you feel all warm on the inside.
We begin with an entrée of soft warm bread and smooth butter, a bottle of shiraz and my new favourite, the crispy and fruity Trumpeter’s Alcoholic Ice Tea.
What did I order? The Steak Frites, a 300g grass fed Victorian Black Angus steak topped with a creamy and heavenly café de Paris butter and crunchy pommes frites aka french fries.
Juicy, tender and medium rare. I smothered that butter all over and appreciated every bite, every lick of the lip, till the plate was empty.
Question: Is it frowned upon to lick the plate after you’re done?
Dessert is a must after every dinner. At least in our household.
With that, we requested the Créme Caramel [the caramel was little too sweet but still delicious nonetheless] and the Beurre Bosc Pear Tarte Tatin with a Créme Fraiche ice cream [the ice cream balanced perfectly with the pear].
Madame Sousou, you’ve done it darling. Great atmosphere, excellent customer service and fantastic, mouthwatering food. Grab your lover and take them to Madame Sousou.
